Consulting for small businesses

Make the work behind your business easier to manage.

When a task keeps slipping, a handoff causes confusion, or your tools create more work than they remove, start by examining the process. PBW’s Small Business Process & Technology Review focuses on one workflow and the practical changes that could improve it.

Start with one problem you can name.

You do not need to redesign the whole business. Choose a recurring task where delays, repeated effort or unclear responsibility are getting in the way.

  • Quote and lead follow-up: know who needs a response and when to follow up.
  • Invoice follow-up: clarify reminders, disputed invoices and weekly review.
  • Vendor onboarding: organize checks, approvals and records before work begins.
  • Process documentation: capture how a task works so someone else can carry it out.

A scoped Process & Technology Review

The proposed review turns a defined workflow into a usable improvement plan. Its exact boundaries and deliverables are confirmed in writing before you engage PBW.

  1. Current-state process map. Document the steps, handoffs and decision points in the selected workflow.
  2. Existing-tool review. Examine the tools you already use, including duplicated entry and gaps in ownership.
  3. Prioritized improvement plan. Separate changes you can make now from options that need more investigation or investment.
  4. Walkthrough. Discuss the recommendations and who will own the next steps.

How an engagement begins

Email a short description of the workflow, the tools involved and what is getting in the way. Please leave out customer records, passwords and confidential documents at this stage.

We discuss fit and clarify the problem before proposing a scope. If the work is a fit, you receive a written proposal with the fee, agreed deliverables, responsibilities and timing. Work begins only after agreement. Implementation, training or ongoing support would require a separate scope; they are not automatically included.

A practical example

Illustrative scenario, not a client result: a service business keeps quotes in email and follow-up dates in an owner’s memory. A review could map the handoff from inquiry to quote, identify who owns the next contact and recommend a simple tracking routine using existing tools. A new software subscription might not be necessary.

Questions before you inquire

Do we need to replace our software?

No replacement is assumed. The review starts with the workflow and your current tools. Any recommendation for a new tool should have a clear purpose, with costs and limitations considered before you decide.

What does consulting cost?

Fees are quoted after the scope is understood. There is no automatic purchase or subscription on this page. A written proposal sets out the fee before work begins.

Does the review include software setup or custom development?

No. The initial offer is a review and improvement plan. Configuration, integrations, custom development and managed IT support are not included. Any follow-on work must be separately assessed and agreed.

Will this guarantee savings or compliance?

No. Recommendations depend on the information available and your business circumstances. PBW does not promise specific savings, sales outcomes or compliance certification. Legal, accounting and specialist security advice remain outside this review.
