How does the framework apply to a small business?
If your team uses AI to draft marketing copy, summarize customer messages or answer customer questions, the framework applies to how you use those tools. You do not need to build an AI model or have a compliance department to benefit from it.
NIST designed the voluntary framework for organizations of all sizes. A small team can begin by naming an owner, recording its AI uses and adding checks that match the possible consequences. Higher-impact uses need closer review.
For example, an agency using AI for client newsletters can approve the tool, restrict confidential inputs and assign a person to verify claims before publishing. Recording errors and corrective actions makes that oversight repeatable.
